The Goulburn Greek Community Archive

A permanent, community-built archive preserving the history of the Greek families who settled in Goulburn and the Southern Tablelands, from the earliest arrivals to the present day.

Why This Project Exists

Over many decades, much of our community's recorded history has been dispersed or lost. Committee records, photographs, newsletters and documents that told the story of the Goulburn Greek community were never formally archived.

Rather than accept that loss, this project reconstructs our history from surviving evidence: photographs, newspapers, family collections, public records and the memories of our families. It is run from within the community it documents, by the parish of Agios Panteleimon and the descendants of the families who built the Goulburn Greek community, and it is built to last for generations.

How every contribution is cared for:

Original photographs and documents stay with you, or are scanned and returned
Nothing is published without the contributor's permission
Every item is catalogued with its source and story
Material can be held privately in the archive, unpublished, at your request

How We Handle History

This archive preserves history rather than rewriting it. Every published statement identifies how we know it: whether it comes from a Published source, a Family recollection, or remains an Unverified lead we are still researching.

We never invent missing facts, we clearly identify uncertainty, and we treat every family equally. Where memories differ, we record the different accounts rather than choosing between them. Corrections are always welcome: if you know better than what is written here, we want to hear from you.

Every Family Holds a Piece of the Puzzle

Even a single photograph, a name, a date or a small memory could be the missing piece that helps us reconstruct our community's history.
